Sixth Grade, Patterson Mill Middle School
“I like doing my part in bringing people together and seeing the smiles on people's faces. I feel like it makes our world better every time we help someone.”
Colin McAtee, age 11, is a sixth-grade student at Patterson Mill Middle School. He’s also a member of the all-youth board of advisors of the We Cancerve Movement, Inc. He served as project leader for two major public awareness campaigns and fundraisers during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month: the Vagabond’s Sandwich Company fundraiser and Goals for Grace, a punt-kick soccer shootout. He’s also credited with involving dozens of students from Fountain Green Elementary School in a major coloring project supporting Eggtra Special Easter Bagskits.
Colin has been a member of the Boy Scouts of America since 2015 and is ranked as a Tenderfoot Scout. He regularly works to help the community and people in need through cleaning, building, and fixing. He’s held fundraisers for Luna’s House to raise money and donations to help homeless and foster animals. He also volunteers every year to serve homeless veteran’s a Thanksgiving meal in Baltimore City. Colin works with his church to collect items and for the homeless and every year at Christmas he adopts a family who is not able to afford extras during the holiday.
“Helping people makes me feel good because everyone deserves to feel wanted and loved,” said Colin.
Colin has received the Presidential Award in the 5th grade for academic achievement. He likes to play soccer and lacrosse. He also plays for Bel Air Rec and has since age four. He also likes to read and go fishing.
