"It makes me feel good to know that I have made a difference in someon's life (no matter how small). Helping someone makes me feel proud and good inside."
Jaydn Betters, age 14, is a member of the all-youth board of advisors of the WeCancerve Movement, Inc. Since 2018, she has volunteered to help with several of the nonprofit’s projects. She is project lead for the inventory and maintenance of LaMagnifique Boutique, an onsite clothing closet for teen girls living in a foster care group home. The Boutique has been fortunate to receive donations from all over the United States and Jaydn has been invaluable in the process of receiving, organizing and preparing these items for the boutique.
One of Jaydn’s most enjoyable events over the past two years has been volunteering as a Camp Counselor for WeCancerve’s, Camp Happy, an onsite camp for children living at two transitional housing facilities in Harford County. She has not only been a counselor, but she has been instrumental in organizing field trips to local farms, coordinating horse-back riding for the campers as well as teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) events to introduce kids to fun Science activities.
She and her family have been volunteering with the United Way for over six years. They have volunteered to prepare holiday dinners for the homeless and those in need within our community. She has spent the last three years as a volunteer for Harford County’s Meals on Wheels program where she volunteers as a helper to package and deliver foods to local elderly and shut in participants. Jaydn was honored during the Harford’s Most Beautiful award ceremony in 2018 and was recognized for her service to the community at a banquet hosted by her local councilman.
As a Freshman at Bel Air High School Jaydn was accepted into the Biomed Program and will continue to be a part of the STEM community. She received her Varsity letter in Volleyball and continues to play softball for the Forest Hill Recreational Travel Softball Team. She plans to try out for the Bel Air Softball Team in the Spring.
