What's happy'ning now
The Covid 19 pandemic has significantly impacted our ability to bring happiness to the thousands of hospitalized children, children experiencing homelessness and children living in orphanages and foster care group homes we serve every spring and summer. Thanks to our dedicated team of all-youth board of advisors, their families, community supporters and others, We Cancerve has been busy since March adjusting to serving amidst this global health crisis. We thank you for your support and encouragement during this time.
March 28: More Time @ Home Means Video
We Cancerve Movement’s all-youth board of advisors shared a sneak-peak into their lives outside of community service and showed how they were spending the early days of Maryland’s “stay-at-home” order. The video was co-produced by We Cancerve Founder Grace Callwood.
March 30: Message of Encouragement Video
We Cancerve Movement’s all-youth board of advisors recited lines of the poem “Don’t Quit” by Rudyard Kipling as part of a video vignette produced to inspire people struggling with the global health pandemic, Covid-19. The video was co-produced by Board Member Jayson Clarke.
April 15: World Art Day Social Media Campaign
Maryland-area youth shared visual and performance art, and what artistic expression means to them, as part of a social media campaign designed to celebrate World Art Day. Nearly a dozen youth participated in this special project.
April 20: National Poetry Month Special Poetry Video Series
Featured six Maryland youth interpreting poetry – some original – on video to offer the community fun, creative alternatives to online content. The video was co-produced by We Cancerve Founder Grace Callwood.
April 21: School Librarian Day
We Cancerve paid a special tribute to a school librarian who inspired an annual project, Books & Buddies. To date, We Cancerve has donated more than 300 kits to area hospitalized children.
April 22: Girl Scout Leader Appreciation Day
We Cancerve paid tribute to the number of Girl Scouts who have teamed with us and adopted our projects. Troops from throughout Maryland have supported the nonprofit’s initiatives since 2008.
April 24: ELU Book Drive
We Cancerve Movement Founder Grace Callwood joined other Greater Baltimore area nonprofit leaders, as part of the Emerging Leaders United, and supported the United Way of Central Maryland’s COVID-19 Book Drive for vulnerable children. We Cancerve purchased 20 new books from their wishlist and had them shipped directly to the United Way’s office.
April 29: Virtual Bingo Prize Box
Thanks to a World of Children grant, We Cancerve is sponsoring an array of prizes for children and teens currently hospitalized and in outpatient care at the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai in Baltimore. Youth will begin participating in a "virtual bingo" sponsored by the hospital.

May 13: Camp Happy Virtual Planning Meeting
We Cancerve Movement leadership will meet with a small team to plan Camp Happy 2020 .
May 21: Smile Fairies
We Cancerve donated 20 toiletries kits to the Free Little Library in Aberdeen's Victory Park to help at-risk families meet immediate needs for personal care items.
May 21: Quarantine Fun Packs for Kids
We Cancerve sponsored fun packs of toys and activities for 13 children living at Anna's House, Bel Air, to help them pass the days in the transitional housing facility.
June 4: Sponsored Pizza Party
Bel Air. Md. The theater department from the Garrison Forest School and We Cancerve are sponsoring a pizza party for teen girls in foster care at Arrow Child & Family Ministries.

4 p.m., We Cancerve delivered 12 baskets for George Lisby Elementary, a Harford County community school, as part of their Back-to-School incentive program for parents who access their community resource center. Special thanks to the Havre de Grace Rotary Club for donating 4 stuffed baskets.
September 1: Books & Buddies Deliveries
10 a.m., We Cancerve will deliver Books & Buddies kits to Casey Cares Foundation in Columbia and Cool Kids Campaign in Towson as part of ongoing National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month activities.

We Cancerve is launching a microgrant for specific organizations that serve homeless and/or foster children. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements.
September 30: We Cancerve Pediatric Patient Assistance Fund Virtual Check Presentation
We Cancerve will present a check to Sinai Hospital from funds raised during the September 2020 "Never Lose Hope" campaign
October 7: Let's Do More Microgrant Awarded
We Cancerve will make its first "Let's Do More" Microgrant award to one or more organizations that serve certain homeless and/or foster children.
November 14: Family Meal Kits Project
We Cancerve Board Members will collect and package meal kit boxes with our favorite recipes - and all of the ingredients - and provide to our friends at Anna's House in Bel Air.
November 16-30: Pantry Box for Hackerman-Patz House
We Cancerve is collecting non-perishable breakfast and snack items for families visiting hospitalized children and other relatives at local hospital. Help us provide food families can grab on their way to medical centers. Recipient organizations include Hackerman-Pat House near Sinai. You're welcome to contribute to our shopping list here.
November 18: Cleaning Kits for Ulman House
We Cancerve is collecting cleaning supplies for youth and young adult cancer patients staying at the Ulman House while undergoing cancer treatment at Greater Baltimore area hospitals. Interested in donating to this ongoing effort? Reach us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
November 20: World Children's Day-Delivery to Hackerman-Patz House
We Cancerve will deliver its first donation of pantry boxes for caregivers to Hackerman-Patz in Baltimore.
