Bringing swift solutions to children in sad situations
Violet Leishman
“When there is something I am interested in, I commit 100% of my effort to the task. I have no other extra-curricular activities that would interfere with my position. I have really enjoyed the people I have interacted with at We Cancerve so far and think I would be a good fit!”

Violet Leishman, 13, is a member of the all-youth board of advisors of the We Cancerve Movement, Inc., a nonprofit that brings happiness to children experiencing homelessness, catastrophic illness and food insecurity, who are in foster care group homes and orphanages, and to unaccompanied minors. The eighth-grade student is also a member of the National (Junior) Honor Society, School Band and Student Government Association.
She was introduced to We Cancerve by best friend Natalie Deitz, who was named to the board in 2023. Violet volunteered during We Cancerve’s do-it-yourself cardboard carnival games in support of the award-winning nonprofit’s Camp Happy. She also volunteered with the group’s Scentsational toiletries drive; she helped collect supplies to make 30 toiletries kits for children in need.
“I am interested in community service because I want to help people in need, and having dealt with loved ones who were struggling with health issues made me want to give back. I know how hard it is to go through treatment, and I want to make it easier in any way I can,” she said.
Violet seeks to be a bigger part of her community; she seeks to take a step outside of her comfort zone by doing more things for the community.
